Maxwell Logistics

25 Years of Excellence

Managing Director, Phil Donnithorne, shares ownership of Maxwell Logistics with his daughter, Legal and Financial Manager, Philippa, and son-in-law, Inventory & Logistics Systems Manager, Phil Nicholls, and it is part of the wider group of Logistics companies owned by the Donnithorne Family.

1996 to 2021

Local Cantabrian, Phil Donnithorne, purchased Maxwell Contract Warehousing Ltd in 1996. Phil’s approach has always been about providing the best in tailored customer solutions. His background in IT has meant Maxwell has been the industry pioneer in providing customers with online access to real-time information about their stock and deliveries.

From humble beginnings, Phil’s leadership has seen Maxwell grow and expand. Maxwell now operates out of two large warehouses, one of which was custom built under Phil’s guidance to include cool storage and specialised racking. This growth will continue through the coming years with construction of a third warehouse in the planning stages.

Our Customers

“I truly believe there’s no one in the South Island who can compete on service, price and culture fit.”

– Gary Cooper, Supply Chain Manager, MARS.

A number of our customers have been with us since the beginning and we take pride in nurturing these long term relationships with our customers.

We’re also welcoming new customers on board all the time. Our ability to offer integration with online ordering platforms like Shopify means we’re supporting small Kiwi businesses to provide the very best in fast picking, dispatching and delivery.

LEADERSHIP

Phil Donnithorne takes inspiration from the late Jack Welch, CEO of General Electric.

Welch’s 6 rules for leaders provide particular perspective for Phil. These are:

  1. Face reality as it is, not as it was or as you wish it to be.
  2. Be candid with everyone.
  3. Don’t manage, lead.
  4. Change before you have to.
  5. If you don’t have a competitive advantage, don’t compete.
  6. Control your own destiny.

LEADERSHIP

THREE GENERATIONS

Meet the Smalls.

Maxwell Logistics takes “family” to the next level with Derek and Chris Small. Derek is Operations Manager and has been with the company from before Phil Donnithorne took over. Derek’s son, Chris, is the Warehouse Manager, having worked his way up through the ranks after starting on a short term contract.

And finally, Derek put his Dad’s name forward when the Donnithorne’s needed help with a specific project 20+ years ago. All in all, that’s three generations of Smalls.
